Experience Description

The aim of the tour is to relive the cultural legacy of Mughal rule in Delhi. The bylanes of Old Delhi, especially Chandni Chowk, represent the secular and pluralistic ethos of this city that has continued since centuries in this almost 400-year-old city.

We will start from the meeting point and get to know the historical significance of the 5 heritage places of worship of different religions - Gauri Shankar Mandir, Baptist Church, Sis Ganj Gurdwara, Sunehri Masjid, & Shri Digamber Jain Laal Mandir. We can go inside 1 or 2 of them if the travellers are interested. In between, we will also get to know about Dariba: the Jewellery market.

After this, through the famous Paranthewali Gali and Kinari Bazar, we move to Naughara: 9 Jain havelis of the Swetambar sect and also enter their temple, which is made fully of marble and has intricate architecture inside.

Next, comes the town hall, a British-era building, where we will get to know about it and the origin of Chandni Chowk.

Then, we enter Ballimaran where we will mainly focus on Ghalib ki Haveli, the house of the most famous Urdu poet ever in India.

Then we will walk to Jama Masjid and get to know about its history and architecture. We will also climb the 40m high Minar and get a wonderful 360-degree view of the whole city.

During the walk, we can also have some Jalebis from Jalebiwalla. Lastly, we end the tour with some delicious Mughlai non-veg food or traditional Indian veg snacks. (On self-contributory basis)

An outstanding insight into Old Delhi. Despite my two years living here I never expected the depth of history to be so concentrated in such a small area. The fabric of history that you were able to show us throughout Chandi Chowk and its back lanes was incredible. I shall now be making further bookings with friends when they come to town. Thanks again! Reviewed by Oliver – By Email

Reviewed by Jared – By Email -Sherpa Rohan knows where to eat. After seeing the sights, our group went to 8 different food stalls...each better than the last. I still dream about the food...and Rohan (a genuine "Foodie") knows better than any tour guide where to eat. He really should start his own tour service because I have never been on a food tour that compared to his.

Reviewed by Rita – Telephonically - Enjoyed all of, it even getting jostled on the streets! As a suggestion, if you could provide a bottle of water and perhaps some napkins and/or disposable plates with food tour, it would be great. Even a hand sanitizer with the guide would go a long way.
